I was watching quick videos of these DIY cardboard storage boxes all over the Pinterest. I’ve so many cardboard boxes waiting to be reused but I never got around to turn these into cute and functional storage boxes. A few months back I finally gave it a try. Oh yes It’s been around 2 months but I could make only one of these because usually there is so much happening around the house that I simply forget I wanted to do more of something!
So actually it’s not a quick thing to do, you may have to spend couple of hours to wrap the box with jute rope. I actually spent a whole day doing it because I only worked on it in little bits of time I got during the routine house chores and kids stuff. I shared the process in my Instagram stories. I also did a short video showing the angle you should hold the rope to make the wrapping a bit quick.
Almost all the videos I’ve seen they lined the boxes with pillow covers but none of my pillow covers fit into the box. So I had to come up with something else to give the box a finished look.
This red polka dots trim on the top edge of the box is actually a bag handle I made a few years back. The bag never got completed but this bag handle was a perfect thing to use as a trim over the edge of the box.
Attach a tag or a vinyl sticker for whatever you are going to use your box for and you have a cute and functional storage box ready to hold your stuff. I really love such storage solutions which also serve as decor items and this DIY cardboard box is a perfect example!
I used the following supplies to make this cardboard storage box.
- Jute Rope – 4 ply
- Recycled Cardboard Box – 25 cm W x 35 cm L
- Glue Sticks – 12
- Glue Gun – Large
